Iran Informs IAEA on Nuclear Power Plant Following Quake

Bushehr NPP

On 9 April 2013, Iran has informed the IAEA's Incident and Emergency Centre of an earthquake that an earthquake struck southern Iran, reporting that there has been no damage to the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant and no radioactive release from the installation.

The IAEA's International Seismic Safety Centre (ISSC) has notified the Agency's Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) that an earthquake struck southern Iran on 9 April 2013 at 11:53 UTC, about 91 kilometres from the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.

Iran has informed the IEC of the event, reporting that there has been no damage to the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant and no radioactive release from the installation.

Based on this information, and the ISSC's analysis - which considers the earthquake's magnitude and other seismic parameters, as well as its location - the IEC is not currently seeking additional information from Iran.
