IAEA Director General Visit to Moscow, Russia

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano is in Moscow, Russia from 16 to 20 May 2013 for a series of high-level meetings with senior Russian officials and to visit key facilities.

The focus of Mr. Amano's visit is the ongoing preparations for the International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Power in the 21st Century which is being held at St. Petersburg from 27 to 29 June 2013. The Ministerial Conference will gather ministers and high-level officials from countries around the world to discuss and take stock of the role of nuclear power in sustainable development and in meeting the growing global requirements for electricity.

During his visit IAEA Director General met with Mr. Sergey Ivanov, Head of the Presidential Executive Office, and with Mr. Dmitry Rogozin, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. Mr. Amano is also meeting with Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sergey Ryabkov. Russia is a key partner of the IAEA; both have wide-ranging cooperation in major aspects of the peaceful uses of nuclear technology.

On Monday, 20 May 2013, the Biennial General Meeting of the WANO will open at the Moscow World Trade Centre, where IAEA Director General Amano will deliver an opening statement.
