The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO, visited the IAEA headquarters in Vienna on 7 June 2013 and was received by IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano.

The Governor General was accompanied by members of the European Australian Business Council (EABC), led by Mr. Stephen Brady CVO, Official Secretary to the Governor-General and member of the EABC Corporate Council. The Permanent Representative of Australia to the IAEA, His Excellency Mr. David Stuart, also accompanied Governor-General Bryce.

The Governor-General was briefed on the Agency's work and mission by Director General Amano, Mr. Kwaku Aning, Deputy Director General for Technical Cooperation, and Mr. Graham Andrew, Special Assistant to the Director General on Policy Coordination and Implementation. The Agency's activities, from its efforts to mitigate the impact of cancer in developing countries - now overtaking malaria as a the major cause of death - to its measures to safeguard nuclear material and maintain safety and security - were described to the Governor-General and the delegation.

In welcoming the Governor-General, Director General Amano noted the important contribution that Australia, as a founding Member of the Agency, has made across all aspects of the Agency's activities. He noted that this cooperation has been to the significant benefit of both Australia, the Agency and the wider international community.
