Board of Governors June Meeting Concludes

On 7 June 2013, the IAEA Board of Governors concluded its second meeting of the year at the Agency's headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano opened the meeting on 3 June 2013 with an introductory statement and a Press Conference was also held on the same day. The full text of the statement can be accessed here and the Press Conference viewed here.

During their deliberations, the 35-nation Board discussed a number of issues, including: strengthening of the Agency's technical cooperation activities; strengthening the Agency's activities related to nuclear, radiation, transport and waste safety; and nuclear verification.

The Board noted the IAEA Director General's report submitted on the Implementation of the NPT Safeguards Agreement and Relevant Provisions of United Nations Security Council Resolutions in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Board also approved the Draft Safety Requirements: Addendum to the Safety Requirements on Safety of Nuclear Facilities; as well as the designation of members to serve on the Board in 2013-2014.

As part of these discussions, a number of documents were reviewed by the Board, including the IAEA Annual Report for 2012, the Technical Cooperation Report for 2012 and the Safeguards Implementation Report for 2012.

The Report of the Programme and Budget Committee was also considered by the Board during this session.

The next IAEA Board of Governors meeting will take place from 9 to 13 September 2013.
