In his opening statement, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano stated that some 60 years after U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower gave his historic Atoms for Peace speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the IAEA continues to work hard to bring the benefits of peaceful nuclear technology to all parts of the globe and to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons.
