Fukushima Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety

The IAEA will brief Vienna-based journalists about the Fukushima Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety, to be held in Fukushima Prefecture on 15-17 December 2012.

The briefing will be held in room B0486 at 11 a.m. on Friday, 7 December 2012 at the IAEA Headquarters in the Vienna International Centre.

The Fukushima Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety, organized by Japan in co-sponsorship with the IAEA, aims to contribute to strengthening nuclear safety worldwide by sharing with the international community, at ministerial and expert level, further knowledge and lessons learned from the Fukushima Daiichi accident and to enhance transparency.

Participants will discuss the progress of international efforts in this regard, including through the implementation of the IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety, as well as of measures to protect people and the environment from ionizing radiation.

The Conference will consist of a plenary session and expert working sessions.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano will deliver a Statement at the opening plenary session of the Conference.

All sessions will be open to the media and will also be webcast live.
