Communication Received from the Resident Representative of Italy on Behalf of the European Community

A Communication Dated 17 June 1996 from the Permanent Mission of Austria

  1. On 19 June 1996, the Director General received a note verbale of 17 June 1996 from the Permanent Mission of Austria about the adoption, by the Government of Austria, of the common policy declaration adopted on 20 November 1984 by the ministers for foreign affairs of the then ten members of the European Community. This was transmitted to the Director General by the Resident Representative of Italy on behalf of the Community on 22 March 1985 and is reproduced in INFCIRC/322.

  2. As requested by the Government of Austria, the text of its note verbale of 17 June 1996 is being circulated for the information of Member States of the Agency.

Text of a Note Verbale Dated 17 June 1996 to the Director General from the Permanent Mission of Austria

The Permanent Mission of Austria presents its compliments to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency and has the honour to inform him, that the Government of Austria as Member State of the European Union as of 1 January 1995 has upon accession to the European Union adopted the common policy declaration adopted on 20 November 1984 by the ministers for foreign affairs of the then ten members of the European Community, which was transmitted to the Director General by the Resident Representative of Italy on behalf of the Community on 22 March 1985 and which is reproduced in document INFCIRC/322. The declaration deals with transfers of nuclear material, equipment and technology between the Member States of the European Union.

The Government of Austria would be grateful if the Director General were to bring this Note to the attention of the Member States of the IAEA.

The Permanent Mission of Austria avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency the assurances of its highest consideration.
