Technical Cooperation Annual Meeting Begins in Vienna

The Technical Cooperation Programme undertakes projects in human health, agricultural productivity, food security, water management, environmental protection, medicine and sustainable energy development.

The annual meeting of the IAEA´s Technical Assistance and Cooperation Committee (TACC) convenes today in Vienna. The Committee will review any new technical cooperation projects and the budget for the year 2011, and then make recommendations for changes or approval to the IAEA Board of Governors.

Planning for the TC programme starts two years prior to project implementation. The full programme for the 2009-2011 cycle was approved four years ago, and the next programme cycle for 2012-2013 is being developed and will be presented for approval in 2011.

The TACC meeting will be followed by the IAEA Board of Governors due to start on Thursday, 2 December 2010.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano will open the meeting of the 35-nation Board of Governors with an introductory statement.
