New Report on Monitoring and Verification in North Korea

IAEA and DPRK

The IAEA Director General has circulated his report today on Monitoring and Verification in the Democratic People´s Republic of Korea (DPRK or North Korea), following a visit by an Agency team to North Korea, 26-29 June 2007.

The report outlines agreed arrangements for monitoring and verification by the IAEA of the shutdown of the Yongbyon nuclear facility and the reactor under construction in Taechon, that were reached between the IAEA team and the DPRK during their visit last week. The report is restricted.

The IAEA´s 35-member Board will consider the report at its next meeting on Monday, 9 July 2007 in Vienna. The visit to North Korea was led by Mr. Olli Heinonen, Deputy Director General for Safeguards.
