Dazhu Yang

IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation

Dazhu Yang

Dazhu Yang assumed his duties as Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation on 1 July 2015.

Prior to his current appointment at the Agency, Mr. Yang served as the Director for Division for Africa, (February 2012-June 2015) and the Director for Division for Asia and Pacific (February 2009-January 2012), Department of Technical Cooperation.

Before joining the IAEA, Mr. Yang held various senior positions in China, including Director General for International Cooperation, China Atomic Energy Authority, and Minister-counsellor of the Permanent Mission of China to the IAEA. He was Alternate to the Governor of China to the IAEA Board of Governors, Member of the Policy Group of the Generation IV International Forum, Member of the Council of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) as well as National Liaison Officer for IAEA technical cooperation and National Coordinator for the Regional Co-operative Agreement for Research, Development and Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology (RCA) and the Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA). He also worked at the Institute of Nuclear Energy and Technology of Tsinghua University for ten years as a researcher and Associate Professor. He has a broad knowledge of nuclear science and technology and rich experiences in international nuclear cooperation.

Mr. Yang obtained his doctorate in Chemical Engineering, master's degree in Separation Engineering and bachelor's degree in Applied Chemistry from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
