Dato' Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob

The Chair of the Board of Governors for the unexpired term of office for 2009–2010 is the Governor of Malaysia, Mr. Dato' Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob. He succeeds and completes the term of his fellow countryman, Mr. M.H. Arshad.

Mr. Yaakob obtained a bachelors degree in Ecology from the University of Malaya and started his diplomatic career in 1988 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As a diplomat, Mr. Yaakob has represented Malaysia at numerous international meetings and conferences on disarmament, non-proliferation and terrorism.

From 1991 to 2002, he served in various diplomatic functions representing Malaysia all over the world. In 2002, he was assigned to the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the IAEA and to the United Nations in Vienna, as Deputy Head of Mission and Alternate Representative of Malaysia to the IAEA.

In December 2007, Mr. Yaakob was appointed as Ambassador of Malaysia to the State of Qatar.

In the course of his career, Mr. Yaakob has received a number of decorations and awards, including: Ahli Ahmad Shah Pahang (AAP), Setia Ahmad Shah Pahang (SAP), Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP).
